Dawn drifts across the hills
Light becomes stronger
Pushing through the mini blind slats
Groggy state of sleep receding
Eyes opening, arms stretching
Another day starting.

My unofficial A to Z blog challenge posts. I didn't sign up because I'm not sure how much time I'll have. I'm going to try a quick poem each day (well Monday - Saturday) for the month of April.
I feel a little rusty with not having written in awhile. Time to flex my creativity.
A sign once said:
"Dance is the only art

True as that may be
Any art has self as main force.
Like writing.
The writer uses words
Words from the soul
Words from our core
Poured onto the page
Crafted yes.
But thought out. Planned. Revised.
Still us.
I vow to you daughter of mine
To be there in good times and tough times
When you are well, and when you are sick.
When you are giggling happily with glee
When your face is scrunched with tears
When we are awake during the day
When you need me during the depths of night
I make this promise to you, daughter of mine
I know your needs will be many
And I will have to arrange around them wants of mine
But joy and love you bring
Daughter of mine
In the deapths of the night
In the light of day
Your many moods, our many joys
Growing changing,
Excited in your new skills.

Adults make vows to each other, but what about to a baby, a totally dependent human being? That got me thinking about writing something like this.

Second hand on the clock
Ticking back and forth, back and forth
never moving forward.
Passage of time stalled
A moment paused
Plastic plant, never changing
Always green
Leaves always lifted
A moment waiting
Hiss sputter stutter
Growl meow oupt.
Rumble
Da doh that da da
Sounds all around
Many sources
Echoed by tiny human
Toddler sound board
Standing up tall
Stretching onto tip toes
Arms overhead
Fingers extended
carrying the energy from the arms
Almost with reach
Just a little further

I could have looked up Q words to see what fit, but this was fun.
I'm still thinking of the car post. It may be more of a random musing v an actual poem.

Never changing
Moment captured
Moment remembered
Every physical detail
There for every glance
Tiny tic tac toes
Hands like stars
Squishy newborn face
Welcome to the world
Opportunity abounds
If only know where to look
If only take a chance
If only try something new
Stretch yourself
Challenge yourself
Opening up into something new.

This almost became "oh what to name a car" thanks to my musings on the way home. But I'd already jotted most of this down on paper while waiting for my workout class to start.
Though the car bit may come up here or there sometime. It was rather geeky. And maybe sort of funny, probably more on a local level.
After the tragedy in Boston yesterday I'm not in a poem mood. I just don't know what to say.
Yesterday was also a day of honoring the Webster Firefighters shot on Christmas eve. I'd been thinking of Webster on my way to work.
No way to say, how to wrap my head around tragedy upon tragedy. Bloody pictures splattered across the media outlets for a brief focused time. Then forgetting the people, the families, the communities paths to healing.
Grasses dancing and waving in the wind
Puffy white clouds gliding across a shimmering sky
Birds swooping diving circling soaring. Landing
Webbed feet skate on glistening water

I was looking at a picture of a tree shadow when this idea came to me.
Warmth from the sun
Colors coming alive
Vivid reds, glowing yellows
Greens and blues
Stretching to the horizon
Mental images of things yet to be
Hopes and dreams of what could be
Subject near, far, realistic, or extraordinary
Anyone anytime anyplace anything
Whispers of Hope
Evening stretches into night
Another phase of the moon slips by
Awake I lie
Whispers in the heavy darkness
"Is this time my Hope?"
Whispers heard only by me.
More evenings, more nights
Darkness mixed with whispers.
Times missed, whispers still asking.
Whispers answering
Internal apple seed.
Is that you, Hope?

Little girl now whispering.
Yes it is me.

I'm using a poem I wrote awhile back. When I was thinking of H coming up I just had to use this.
Moving forward
One foot in front of another
Learning new things
Day break
Changes changing
Rebirth renewal
Starting fresh and new
Dew on newly green grass.
